The reported $25 billion transaction reshapes the competitive conversation around CyberArk, BeyondTrust, and Delinea, but PAM buyers should resist reducing the decision to market share or headline valuation. The more useful comparison is how each platform approaches privileged account security, cloud access, endpoint elevation, secrets, and session management as organisations move away from permanent administrator rights.
The core problem is platform fragmentation. Many enterprises operate separate tools for password vaulting, remote vendor access, endpoint privilege, cloud entitlements, and secrets management. That fragmentation creates policy gaps and makes it difficult to understand a complete privilege path from an identity to a sensitive asset. Consolidation can reduce those gaps, but it can also increase dependency on one vendor and make migration assumptions harder to challenge.
Buyers should first compare discovery and coverage. A modern PAM programme must identify human administrators, service accounts, application secrets, cloud roles, DevOps credentials, and emerging AI-agent identities. It should then apply just-in-time access, approval, rotation, and least privilege consistently across those populations.
The second comparison is enforcement depth. Vaulting a credential is different from controlling the actions performed with it. Strong session management should provide recording, command controls, behavioural analytics, and rapid termination. Endpoint and cloud controls should support privilege elevation without forcing users to operate permanently as administrators. These capabilities determine whether PAM can reduce attack paths rather than simply document them.
Finally, assess operating fit: integrations, APIs, policy portability, reporting, implementation effort, and exit costs. The strongest platform is the one that can make privileged access measurable and reversible across the organisation’s actual technology estate. The transaction may alter vendor strategy, but buyers still need evidence that a chosen PAM platform can eliminate standing privilege without slowing critical work.
